Dr. NGOZI ONYIA (nee Ogeah) – MBBS, FWACP, MBA, CTH (Insert her picture)
Profile
Dr. Ngozi Onyia is a 1982 medical graduate of the University of Ibadan, a Fellow of the West African College of Physicians in Paediatrics (FWACP), a Travel Health Physician and a certified Commercial Mediator. An alumna of the Lagos Business School (EMBA 11), she became a medical entrepreneur after 28 years of medical practice in both the public and private healthcare sectors in Nigeria. Her ten-year stint (2000-2010) as the Company Medical Adviser of Nigerian Breweries, a blue chip company, was her most notable role before the establishment of her own practice in 2010, Paelon Memorial Hospital (PMH).
PMH is a boutique, multispecialty hospital that aims to provide health services of the highest quality in one place. It was established with a vision to redefine healthcare in Nigeria and a mission to provide Safe, Timely, Evidence-Based and Patient-Centered care.
In a bid to fulfill this mission, PMH adopted the SafeCare quality improvement methodology, ultimately being the first Hospital to achieve a level 5 rating in 2016, a feat that was repeated in 2020 with higher scores. Patient Safety is at the core of Paelon’s practice and reputation for attention to details, consequently, good outcomes.
PMH was the recipient of the Nigerian Healthcare Excellence Award SafeCare Facility for the years 2018 and 2021.
In September 2022, PMH received an award of recognition from the Health Facilities Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA) for being the most compliant private hospital in Lagos state.
Most recently, on June 6 2024, we were awarded an Excellence Award for Quality and Patient Safety by the esteemed Caring Like Family Africa Awards in Egypt.
Currently, PMH has two branches one in Lagos and one in an underserved, hard to reach community in Delta State (a PPP in conjunction with the Delta State Contributory Health Insurance Commission).
The first and flagship of the group is located at the highbrow Victoria Island area of Lagos. Our now defunct second Lagos branch was in the forefront of the private sector response to COVID 19.
PMH was established in memory of Dr. Onyia’s 3rd and last child, PAtricia ELozie ONyia (PAELON), who was born with a rare congenital syndrome, CHARGE syndrome. In May 1994, after 9 difficult years that included 5 major surgeries, Patricia died in November 2003 as a complication of her 3rd surgeries that had been performed 8 years prior. This was a major motivation for the priority placed on patient safety in Paelon.
Dr. Onyia is a trusted, thorough, and caring physician and is often sought for second opinions. She is an effective leader of her team and also has an extensive network of people.
Dr. Onyia sits on the board of several organizations including Leadway Health Insurance Company, Pharmaccess Nig., Society for Quality Health in Nigeria (SQHN), Nigerian Society of Travel Medicine (NSTM), Children Arise Foundation, Boys to Men Foundation among others. She is also a member of the advisory board of the PISTIS Foundation of The Elevation Church. She is a member of several organizations including the Guild of Medical Directors, Healthcare Federation of Nigeria, Paediatric Association of Nigeria wherein she chairs the audit committee. She currently serves on the Board of the Nigerian Society of Travel Medicine as the Vice-Chairman.
Dr. Onyia is a mother of two adult children and a grandmother to 3.
